New Jersey born outfit, Senses Fail, rose to prominence in 2004 upon releasing their debut album Let It Enfold You. The effort, released through Vagrant Records, soared to number 2 on the chart, as well as making a breakthrough on the Billboard 200. The album eventually sold over half a million copies in the U.S., earning gold status. By 2008, Senses Fail was dominating the independent charts. Their third album, Life is Not a Waiting Room, became their highest charting effort to date, peaking at number 1 on the Top Independent Albums and number 18 on the Billboard 200. Throughout their career, Senses Fail has been instrumental in putting emo and posthard core music in the mainstream charts.
In 2003, Story of the Year dropped their debut effort Page Avenue, which triumphantly sold over a million copies in the U.S. The album spawned several hit singles, “Until the Day I Die,” “Anthem of Our Dying Day,” and “Sidewalks.” These songs put emo and posthardcore music on the map, helping popularize a genre that used to be celebrated only in the underground scene. With Story of the Year’s strides, the emo circuit became a vast melting pot of talented bands. After their incredible debut, the band continued to make waves on the charts with subsequent releases like In the Wake of Determination, The Black Swan, and The Constant. Story of the Year released their latest album, Tear Me To Pieces in 2023.
